Its the same Edward G. Shortt.
A few lines doesn't do this man justice
a book on his life and his genius, many patents and businesses would be in order.

Briefly from my notes E.G.Shortt was probably best known for his inventions of braking systems for Locomotive Trains and eventually the Westinghouse Triple brake.
1880's to 1900 patents and mfgr of high speed steam engines.
Some where in these years he moved from Carthage New York to Chicago and established The W.M.Ryan Company that developed and made the gasoline engines. 1902 Patent 711,235 A, and in 1906 Patent
812,304 that pertains to the engine in the above post.
At this same time E.G.Shortt was President of the Ryan Car Company also in Chicago !
