Hi
Can someone help me with telling the difference between these two types of ignition systems (Bridgeport).
I have recently become the owner of a Bridgeport boat motor 4hp model 40 1cyl with the type ignition system that picture nr1 shows, though the vertical axis is missing, they were equipped with magneto ignition when they were sold to Sweden.
But the worm gear sits on the crankshaft and I intend to build such ignition system.

Thanks/Peter

Your first picture has a timer. That means that , as Scott pointed out it is a "jump spark" ignition.
You will need a battery and a high voltage buzz coil.

There is a good discussion of the modern version of the buzz coil here.

and here

The modern version is much much better than a Model T Ford coil.

If you need the diagram, I can send it to you.

now my "ignition box" ready and delivers a nice spark, I used an old magneto breaker points to check the function, thanks again for the tips.
Now on to the next problem to arrange, worm gear, power distribution, etc.ignitionbox

the Little helical gear is missing and my intention is to rebuild original ignition system, igot stuck in how many teeth, diameter, pitch...has that Little gear.Big one (Picture) sit on crank has 13teeth.
I would be happy if some one could tell the specifications on Little gear, i suppose Bridgeport use the same gears on 2cyl?
thanks/Peter
