It was a great weekend and I picked up this one also. They were both from a friend from the AOMCI. We had a nice display of inboard engines at our larger summer meet and one thing led to another.....

I'm sure that JB can tell me all I need to know about this one such as the year. I know it needs rings, but other than that is in pretty nice condition. }

Keith Felder has started researching the ads and technical data we have, he may chime in. Just a guess I would say 1910 or earlier, low #, I only know of maybe 4 with the single check valve water pump, I believe it will need a check in the inlet line. They started around 1906.

J B is right, L-A made the 5 HP, 2 cycle from 1905 to 1911 and with a upright timer from 1908. You do have a nice engine

Was the hole for holding the gear cover on the front face of the timer shaft bracket? This one has one hole on the right side, but it isn't tapped. Did the earlier ones not have the cover then?

Keith,

the tag has 421 on it. I haven't seen anything stamped anywhere. Where should I look?

Thanks

Lockwood-ash put the ser. # on the tag and on the end of the crank shaft on the flywheel end. If someone didn't hit it with a hammer or pass a file over it, it should be there. you may have to remove some paint or rust but try not to take much metal off.

Keith,

I looked at the crank this morning before work and didn't see any evidence of the number. The crank end barely has any rust marks and the center drill looks pretty much perfect so I don't think it has been abused. I will look some more when I have more time.
