Can any one tell me how to repaint a name plate. I have one from a 4hp Acadia. It's brass and has slightly raised polished brass lettering on a black background. I was thinking maybe if I sprayed the whole thing black and then rubbed it on a surface plate with very fine wet/dry paper the letters may come back shiny leaving the background black.
Has anyone refurbished one of these??

Yup - it works every time, but make sure it is nice and flat
You need to go real easy on the fine abrasive and be patient - it WILL work.
