I recently bought a gem of an little engine. It's a United States Marine Engine made by the United States Motors Corp in Oshkosh , Wisconsin. What makes it a real gem is that it has never been run or installed in anything. It still has the original red tag warning to fill with oil before starting. Has never had oil or gas put in it! I would like more information about this engine if anyone has any please. I'll try to post the pictures I have of it. H.P.-1.75,RPM-2600,Model Number 2M-1, S/N 111200

Hi there,
Your engine is actually a water cooled Briggs and Straton. They were also used for marine generators. They really do run good and parts except for the head gasket are available. The water pump is Jabsco. I think the comparable Briggs is a 5s.
Hope this helps
Ernie

Ernie is right its a briggs And Stratton.
The model number is #NPW. They were used on small gen-sets. I have a restored one in my collection.

Actually its a Universal. Universal cut a deal with Briggs and Stratton about 1947 to cast a water cooled head and cylinder for the Briggs Model S/T. It was bored oversize to make it a T. The head should have the UF logo of Universal foundry cast in it. They made it in 12, 24 and 32 volt versions. Rated at 750 watts and were very nice quiet running units.

Right again, Universal bought all briggs and Stratton parts, and cast their own block and head
They made these in several sizes all the way up to the #AW,BW,& ZW Those were all earlier motors.
The motor shown is the model NPW, The most common of the lot. I also have a univeral gen-set with the water cooled Lauson engine on it. I was told it was used in a marine application.

Thanks for the info fellows. I was told it was bought around 1948-1950 so that would make it an early model of it. Can we tell by the serial no: what year it may actually be. As of now I have no plans to part with it. I don't actually plan to run it, just clean it up and static display it. It would be great in a small boat to putter around but I don't plan on that either at this time. I have a Briggs WM with a stomp starter on it and it does look similar.
