Spent a little time at the Rochester library today looking at the city directories.

Trying to figure out relationship of FA Brownell, Trebert Gas Engine, HLF Trebert, Rochester Motors Corp, Brownell-Trebert

Here are Notes:

1. Trebert Gas Engine Co at 163 W Main ca 1903 (catlog)

2. Trebert Gas Engine Co at 480 W Main ca 1908 (ad posted by Richard)

3. FA Brownell is successor to Brownell-Trebert. Located at 634 Lexington Ave (1907-08 catalog)

4.HLF Trebert at 1182 St Paul ca 1908 (ad posted by Richard)

5. HLF Trebert at 407 St Paul in 1910 City Dir

6. HLF Trebert at 495 St Paul in 1912 City Dir

7. FA Brownell at 634 Lexington in 1910 city dir

8. 7 FA Brownell at 634 Lexington in 1912 city dir

9. Rochester Motors Corp located at 634 Lexington in 1920 city dir

10. Card file says Rochester Motors in Directories 1914-1925

11. Trebert Airplane Motor Co incorporated in 1917.

Have some more digging, but did Brownell join original Trebert Gas Engine to Form Brownell -Trebert? Then did they split to form HLF Trebert and FA Brownell? Then did Rochester Motors take over FA Brownell?

I would appreciate any input. Going back next week.

John

I like the ad - especially about fussy engines.
Sounds like the modern day equivalent of some of the software packages that I have to deal with.
Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme.

Amazing how these lengthy 4ft beam round bilge hulls didn't just roll over and fill with water from the counter torque of the engines driving them.. or did they??

Eastern wide waters may be refering to an Erie canal boat basin common outside municipal areas that buffered traffic through a city synomous to a rail yard. This must have been East of Culver Rd along the canal/Monroe ave area-rgvrr???? Any mention found on the Reliance line Richard mentions? The boat in the Rochester Gas Engine Co. ad I believe is the "DORNO" built by a firm on South Ave near the Genesee River- possibly the Genesee launch and engine Co (????)
