Hey everyone. New to the board. This seemed to be the only forum I could find that may be able to assist me with my problem.

I purchased a 1966 Lone Star Mustang boat yesterday. We have one week on the contract to get it running and test it before we have to keep the boat.

We have found the problem with starting it. First off, the boat is in great shape, and the engine is the Mercruiser renault inline 4 with 60 hp.

Now, the problem is either the starter or cylinoid. We have removed it to try and find a replacement loacally, but found out that they were all made in France by a company named ducettier. I need both of these pieces hopefully within the next few days.

Will any other starter/cylinoid work in this situation? ANY advice would greatly be appriciated. Thank you all!

Arthur

keeper,

You haven't given the serial number of the engine, but the starter application guide will be shown at this link on the marineengine.com site.

It looks like you need 18-5911 or 18-5900.

By the way this is not really the right site for questions about that motor. We have a Mercruiser category on the MarineEngine.com discussion board.

there are 3 starters that will fit r-8 & r-10's
are you sure it's a Ducellier 6128 or 6128A ?

If the engine is a 1966 Mercruiser inline 4 cylinder 60hp, then yes. Based on a Renault engine and the original starter may have been French, but the replacment starters are not French made.

See the application guide in the link above.
