Palmer M60 3000 rpm
22 hp
Serial number#43326 5
Color: green

How can I find the age of this engine?

I want to sell the engine and the transmission to finance a refit and an insurance inspection...knowing its age will help determine the price.

The engine is well over 30 years old. Palmer went out of business in the 1970s. It is basiclly scrap iron except that the exaust manifold is of value to those are maintaining P-60s or M-60s, provided that it is servicable.

The serial number fits the pattern for 1965. If the engine was fresh water cooled and low hours it probably has a fairly high resale value say $1500 for anyone with a rusted out P-60. If salt water coolde its junk as eddy says. Parts such as the water pump, starter, carb, reverse gear may be of some value to other P-60 owners.

Thnaks guys for the info.

The motor is fresh water cooled and runs great! I went out today and started it for the first time in three weeks.Turned the key, pulled the choke and it purred at 500 rpm. Ran for about three hours at 1200 rpm without a hitch and used about a gallon of fuel...nice day on the Puget sound.
Extras include: A second generator and a hand crank for starting the motor. I figure since it does run well and the transmission is attached and working I will ask $3000.00. I know its a high price. This motor is ready for use and the new owner could bolt it in, wire it up and go for a ride...a complete, running spare motor with a functioning transmission.

Only a pro would ask an outrageous price for an obsolete gasoline marine engine.

Well heck there good buddy ya got me good on that one! I,ll place it right next to my 1942 "useless infomation" and right in front of my 1933 "if you dont want it dont buy it"

I see it like this...folks spend outrageous amounts of money on ridiculous things everyday like Cable T.V., new cars, expensive watches, over priced homes and boats.
Its a big world and I am sure that someone will want the motor and tranny. If I want to ask 3 million for the motor I can. The buyer can talk me down from my price and we will both be happy.
As for obsolete...there is an entire industry built on selling obsolete items for too much money.
As for over priced...any time you purchase something from a vendor you are paying too much for it...its the american way and good business.

Yes, you are absolutely correct. Far be it from me to interfere with free trade. Ludicrous, but totally fair. Best wishes.
