Around 1910 Collings & Bell, boatbuilders in Aukland, agents for Doman and Perfection engines, were installing a Doman 20HP in a 35' launch, a 10HP in a 25' aux'ly fishing boat and a 10HP in a 30' pleasure launch.
Doman also put a few of their 4cyl's in tractors here in the US.
Does anyone know how widespread Domans were in the AU-NZ area, and/or if any of their engines were exported for stationary, tractor or other uses??
I've read the archives here, and am trying to get accepted on Tomm.com.au (was on the old board, but the new one doesn't seem to know me!).
Any comments. leads, suggestions (other than to get a life!) appreciated. Many thxx!! Bud

Bud, as far as I am concerned, Doman engines are unknown in Australia. I can't remember any reference to them at all. The claim to being industry leaders in the tractor engine field would need to be taken with a grain of salt.

You will have to register on the new TOMM forum.

should get you to the right place.

Eric: Many thxx for your reply.
Doman did get their 4cyl engine into five tractors here that I know of, but, as you say, their claim to be leaders in the field was almost as prematuture as Rumely's announcement of their 6cyl 125HP marine engine.
I'm working with Michelle at Tomm to get registered; was a lot easier on the old board.
The Aukland ref is on paperspast.natlib.gov.nz, apparently from a magazine called Progress that reported scientific and mechanical stuff. One is in english, and another in what looks like Maori!
