are there any other year models that do not have a neutral gear?

Yup 6 hp in the same vintage or a few years newer
However don't confuse the full gearshift 6 that was also available
Also a 3 and 4 but they may not share any parts

are they very reliable and they hard to crank i just got motor and have not started it yet

They might have an ignition coil problem. If they are cracked replace them. However coils are easily available from
www.Marineengine.com.
Replacement coils will last forever.
Also be CAREFULL about NOT pulling the starting cord all the way out. Just use short quick pulls
