Hello,

I'm restoring a 14 foot inboard racing boat from the late 20s. The boat has no distinguishing markings, and was converted to an outboard in the 1040s. I think it raced in one of the racing classes 151 cubic inches or less. The boat is from Missouri.

Is it possible to identify what engine went into the boat by checking the center-to-center distance of the engine stringers? Does anyone have that information for various manufacturers? One of the most popular engines in this class was the Pierce-Budd 3 cylinder.

Also, I'm looking for a fairly light replacement engine of less than 151 cubic inches from sometime before WWII. Any suggestions on a good candidate? I can't afford to buy a Miller racing engine.

Richard, Thanks!

Does anyone have the same type information for the following:

Gray - 143 ci
Universal Blue Jacket Racing - 148 ci

I measured, and the distance center-to-center on the boat is about 20.5 inches.
