A man named James Lathrop died back in November. He was 70 years old."Jim" Lathrop was named after his great-grandfather J.W. Lathrop; the man that started building marine engines in the early 1900's in Mystic CT. Many of you folks may be familiar with Lathrop engines. I have one in my boat(although my engine was built after the company was sold).I am very proud to be able to tell people that I have a Lathrop engine in my Bigelow wooden boat. All made in NewEngland in the U.S.A.,baby.
Am I a dinosaur for even caring?

Brand, please don't be shy about telling us about your boat and the engine - heck pictures would be OK too.

Here is a photo of the boat. I use nothing but Kirby paints on it.boat photoThe boat was built in 1950 by Bigelow of Plymouth Ma. at the time. He later moved to just over the Borne bridge on Cape-cod Ma.I am not a boat builder, I simply maintain this vessel the best that I can.The engine is a Lathrop 4 cylinder from about 1966. 35 horse-power.I had the engine totally rebuilt by an expert.I keep the boat on a mooring in the Taunton river in Dighton,Ma. at the Shawomet Yacht club.
