I have a Universal Unimite HFR Serial Number 118288. She came with my 1930 Elco 27. Looks like she was not original to the boat. She runs. Want to convert to a diesel engine. Is anyone interested? Looks like parts for the engine are fairly easy to come by. Unimites are built from a Hercules tractor engine IXB.

I have no idea. My mechanic said that the block was from an IXB Hercules. How would i know if it has 3 or 5 bearings? She is HFR 118288 Universal Unimite. I dont know much more than that. She also has a 2:1 transmission. We did find parts on www.jobbersinc.com

Without pulling the pan off, I'm not sure how you would tell. Someone who knows the Hercules engines well could probably tell you. The five bearing was later obviously. Hercules ZXB block was also widely used.

Hercules blocks have matched surface just blow the head in the middle of the block one side or the other with the Hercules # on it you will have to wire brush the paint off that spot.

Maybe I should have been more clear in my initial post. Does anyone want this engine? It would be great as a parts engine or invest in new valves, new rings and run as your primary. It is in Milwaukee on a pallet. I can load into your vehicle. First $200 takes it.
