Keith

I've been looking at this Old Marine Engine and the word that comes to mind is "EPITOME ",one of the oldest and classic of our interests here,
an absolute treasure.
To be in such fine condition and have its name plate is very very special !
The Vapor Engine & Power Co. to my knowledge has no association with the Monarch engine in the first posts of this thread ! Their only commonality is the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The Vapor Engine & Power Co. is one of the oldest Gasoline marine engines Mfgrd in this country, its patent was applied for in 1894 and the last year of production was 1899.

I have never sorted out my notes on this company
but will just post them here.

---------------------------------------------
Patent 531182 issued 1895 to Ralph B. Hain, patent 607992 issued 1898. Second sucessful Gas marine engine in US
Leonidas G. Wooley-later patent 722672
Wooley Foundry & Machine Co.Anderson, Indiana
Sold To American Motor company New York

---------------------------------------------
This is an interesting article from a 1910 publication !

The original patent was applied for in 1884 so it tells me the engine was designed and made at least a year earlier and that puts it right about 2-3 yrs after clark Sintz engines ??

What a great find and addition to such a fine engine collection.
Really appreciate the Post !
