I own a Piantoni 18' prototype wood speed boat in Italy. Built in 1960. Piantoni was a competitor of Riva, the factory of both was on lake Iseo.
It is the first time that I come across a marine engine, this one is a Owens Flagships. If anybody can help me I wold like to understand which is the model and where to find technical documentation: whorkshop manual and spares catalog. Please see picyures attached.
This engine was restored about 10 years ago and it has not been used for the last 5 years, it doesn't start, anybody knows where to begin from in this situation?

It is a Chevy V8 most likely a 283 or 327 cubic inch.
It needs spark and fuel to run. I am assuming it has compression since it was restored somewhat recently compression should be good.
Service information for either engine will be very close on all specs. In fact service information for just about any Chevy V8 without fuel injection should get the engine running for you. the only thing that could be different is the firing order if is a reverse rotation engine. Normal rotation is clockwise viewed from the front or in your case the end with the reverse gear attached. Just about every normal rotation Chevy V8 has a firing order of 18436572
Hope this helps
Ernie

I'm posting pictures and thank you for the phone number.
The engine is very powerful but I still didn't understand if it is a 283 or a 327. Do you know a link where I can download some tech pages?

I have never been able to find any manuals and always have to call for any information on my engine. I asked them about getting a manual for mine and they said they did not have any or did not know anywhere to get them no longer in production.

Hope you found the information you need, if not this may help. The engine is either 283F or 327F series, F standing for flywheel forward. Engine rotation and firing order can be either standard rotation 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 or counter rotation (Reverse) 8-4-3-6-5-7-2-1
A standard rotation engine is same as an car, but the counter rotation engine has differences ie. timing gears not chain, revered pistons and distributor setup due to rotation, these are the major ones.
To determine exact engine get the block casting number found looking at flywheel end fo block on far left http://www.chevyhardcore.com/news/reference-chevy-engine-block-casting-numbers/ then check it to the Chevy casting list http://outintheshop.com/faq/casting/castings2.html

Hope this helps.
