I have inherited an Ellwe single cylinder compressorless diesel engine of which I know very little except :

Output :18 HP
Speed: 550 RPM
Date of manufacture: approx 1930.

This specific engine was restored to full running order 6 years ago by my Grandfather.

My Great Grandfather was the sole English agent for Ellwe in 1920s and 1930s and as such imported engines as kits from the Swedish manufacturers.

The engines were assembled and modified as necessary to suit specific installations, which were usually sail barge, sloop or coaster conversions.

Whilst the engine is very dear to myself and my family, we are sadly unable store it and I would be extremely interested to know of any museums (in UK) who may be interested in having this as an exhibit.

I also be very grateful for any any information regarding the Ellwe company, this specific engine type or other enthusiasts with whom I can exchange information.

Thanks in anticipation.

Andrew,
Have you disposed of your Ellwe engine yet? Would appreciate an update. I'm interested in the company history.
Andy
