kiwiaussie: You have the wrong email address for yourself. Don't bother emailing him because instead you'll reach me, and I know 3/8 of sweet f.a. about engines :-)

Hopefully for you folks looking for your manuals, kiwiaussie will come back 2 years later and look at these boards.

In case anyone else suffers the same loss of power, check for wheeze at the diesel bleed point. The outlet valve of the fuel pump is a dumb design, pressure pushes the seat out of its recess. Thinking about araldite-ing it in place, wait&see.

Hello Gentlemen,

I just came in possession of a nice Folkboat with a Drofin 12m Engine in it. According to the previous owner the engine works fine, but the gearbox has some problems. I have not yet seen myself.

All manuals have been lost, so I'm search for everything available, Users Guide, Maintenance Guide, etc. I'd be very grateful for help !

My email is [email protected]

G'day, Can anyone assist in sourcing Drofin/Renault oil filters

I've been running my Drofin happily for 28 years - great engine 1450 hours from new.

Got a problem, having trouble sourcing oil filters in Sydney Australia. With the current Aussie Dollar, I'm considering buying 10 - 12 overseas.

Part number equivalents are
Fiamm FT4664
AC X91
Fram P4512
Coopers LSF5123
Ruggerini 17511
Clean DO315
Slanzi 407045
Fispa FOE191
Savara 50524

With so many alternates the filter must have been used on more than Drofins and Ducatti Condor A350's
Appreciate any help, also have a wide variety of spares

I've found the filters at wismet.de, a filter manufacturer.
Oil Filter: WOE8235 (EUR 9.05)
Fuel Filter: WFU37496 (EUR 11.83)

They sent me off to sf-filters.ch as local distributor, but sf-filters
only sells to professionals and I'll ask my boatyard to buy me some.

I suppose they would have not problem to sell you a quantity, provided
you pay shipping.

Hi Maeling,

Gineco Marine in Sydney has the Fiamm at around $30aus. I have found a trucking company here on the Gold Coast called "Briggs diesel spares" that have an equvilant at $13aus. Very good value.

Thanks Marcus_b and kiwiaussie (I'll forgive you brother). I have been shy of Gineico suspecting about $30
Went to Wismet. EUR 9.05 is about $13 - have asked for a price on 12
Briggs sounds good - but will now try locally and see if there is a second source first.
Again thanks

Appreciate a lead on Briggs. All I can pull up on the Gold Coast is Briggs & Stratton.

Also my AC part# equivalet listed above may not be correct

Got a brief reply from Wismet. "We do not deliver to Australia"

Just sent a reply offering to pay freight on 12 filters.. I think I originally bought 20 thinking I had a lifetime supply! No one told me how long a lifetime was.

I would try to find the filters in Australia. There certainly are companies
supplying all kinds of filters who might have a compatible one.

There is www.rycofilters.com.au, who allow to search for filters by
physical dimensions, so it looks likely you can find one.

Lucio, What country are you in. I have parts in Australia but exchange/shipping is possibly too expensive. What parts do you need?
Shaft, Impellers, bearing/seal

I've heard of Drofin oil filters available in Bendigo at $37 ea. It's a bit too expensive compared to Sydney at $30 that I am already rebelling over.

Drofin alternator - in my workshop manual it say the Alternator is a Bosch 0 120 339 521
current at 3000rpm (?engine/alternator?) 28 amps

Engine /alternator ratio 1 2.04 so I suspect rpm given is for the engine

The only other number is on what I take to be the regulator box an the back of the Alternator
0 1`92 052 004EE14V3

Kipster, I must reveal who I really am

Batman - no not really

I bought my Drofin in 1982 when I worked for British Leyland Sydney. When they ceased distributing them,I had the opportunity to by a sufficient quantity of parts to rebuild my engine should it ever get drowned. Later they gave me a crate of second hand parts from the workshop including 3 spare gearboxes an starter and alternator. Plus a lot of new impellers.

In 1480 hours I have used up my injectors, headgasket and oil filters. Plus at least one of my gearbox cones. It has been a good engine to me.

With no intention of getting rid of my Drofin anytime soon, i need to be careful about running down my supplies

Thanks for the info, Geoff.
You are fortunate re parts. I have just purchased this engine along with a fishing boat.
What can you tell me about the motor anode? I don't really see the point in buying them if I can make my own ie JB Weld Zinc to brass nut

Drofin anode, Kip can you hold off for a couple of weeks So I can get anode dimensions.

Also suggest you don't use straight zinc. I believe anodes are an alloy. I can get a source of rod for you. What suburb is a chandler for you in.

Drofin mechanic in Melb desperately needed. After changing rings, valves, bigend shells, injectors and inj pump elements it still only runs on 1cyl. Also shocking low oil pressure, which is despite good gears in the pump. GK 0438 684318

Kiwiaussie, if you still have a copy of the user and parts manual for the Drofin 12M, could you please forward a digital copy or hard copy? Able to reimburse you for any costs involved.
I have recently acquired a sailing cat which has a Drofin that seems to have been modified incorrectly and is not working properly so I aim to try to restore the engine to its original state. Hence the need for a manual. Thanks from Brisbane.

Hi all, I need to buy an impeller for the water pump on my Drofin 12M and would like to hear from any person or source in Australia who is prepared to sell one to me, rather than trying to obtain one from overseas. Apparently the RC16D is identical
so an impeller from that version would be suitable.
If you have any information please message me, thanks from Brisbane, David.

Difference between Drofin and Renault 16

The two appear identical except for the power output coupling and gearbox power input coupling. Perhaps the fuel pumps are different.

You cannot put a Renault gearbox on a Drofin or vice-versa Geoff

Drofin fuel pump problem resolved. My pump stopped working - correct kit was hard to identify and return freight to Melb would have to be paid if I got it wrong.

So pulled the pump apart and found the outlet valve disk floating inside the pump diaphragm. The problem is that the assembly is only held in place by friction. After reassembly I used a fine centrepunch to put 3 dimples in the diecast above the assembly. All works fine. ps Injector shop recommended against replacing with an electric pump. The fuel oversupply at higher pressure would find its way into the sump oil.

Exchange Drofin/Renault engines.

Hans Lembke in Sydney sells complete exchange engine with gearboxes for about Au$3000 incl warranty.

Hello, does anyone here still have those service and overhaul manuals for the renault rc16d?
Mine starts a little sluggishly and smokes a bit.
Runs fine though, and has plenty of power.
Maybe the timing of the diesel pump is off?

Maarteen, I don't think your problem is timing, you said it runs okay.
Three times I have had long cranking - causes
- Fuel - there seemed to be no fuel at the injectors and had to be pumped through before start
- Backpressure - exhaust waterbox full and the engine had to blow it out
- Headgasket - blowing

If the headgasket would be blowing, wouldn't there be loss of power as well?

Are any of those causes accompanied by smoking in your experience?

No, the first I had at about 800 hours, my only symptom was fine carbon over the entire area inside the engine box. The second at 1600 hours was only evidenced by a subtle clicking. Eventually cranking with fuel shutoff, I could hear a slight whistle.

Really I think yours is a fuel issue. When were the injectors last serviced? Geoff

Hi All
I am after a copy of the 12hp Drofin Manual too please. I have just bought an old 25ft Roberts Yacht with a Drofin diesel in it that doesn't want to go!
Thanks Paul

Hi everyone...
I have been playing with my old Drofin for a couple of years now. pulled it apart and put it back together a couple of times now. Reusing old gaskets. However my head gasket is leaking a little puff of exhaust at the rear of the engine albeit the engine does run fine now and starts first time always. Anyone know where I can source a head gasket?

Hi All . I'm also looking for the workshop manual for a drofin 12hp in a Alloora trailer sailed. I'm restoring my late dads yacht. She hasn't run for years after finding the fuel rack gummed up she's running. I've fitted a oil pressure direct reading gauge to her and pressure is off the dial. Pressure relief valve. Not sure where it is. Manual would be greatly appreciated.

Mechanic Stuart.
