It looks a bit like a Bolinder semi-diesel hot bulb from Sweden.

Circa 1920s.

What does it say on that crank case cover ?

There were a plethora of marine two stroke semi-diesel manufacturers in Norway, Sweden, Holland and the UK in the early 20th century since that was the only oil engine technology available until cold start true diesel engines became popular in the late 20's, early 1930's. Bolinder was one of the most prolific but it could be any of a number of other smaller firms that later fell by the wayside.

Doesn't look like a Bolinder, Kromhout or Gardner.

Some contacts here in the UK have suggested its a Lidan.

http://www.motorsamling.com/spec.php?7-010

Lidan Motorfabrik Sweden around 1916

A water cooled, 6 HP, vertical stationary hot bulb engine, running on crude oil (diesel and most vegetable oils).

But we could do with more detailed photos.
