I remember reading a Cummins builiten years ago saying not to use petroleum lubricant on sleeve orings, it would cause them to swell and distort the sleeve. I don't rembe what they recomended, probably a soap based rubber lube.

I found in the 53 Series Maintenance Manual, that they said to Apply a Hydrogenated Vegetable type shorting, or permanent type antifreeze solution to the Seal Rings.

Some liquid soap is the usual favourite or antifreeze. Personally I use Murphys Oil Soap on O Rings used sparingly.

Whats critical is how much you use and how viscous, if you fill the O-Ring cavity with lubricant as well as the O-Ring you'll hydraulic the O-Ring and it can start to be pushed out before the liner sealing surface fully passes it and hence the O-Ring will get cut/damaged.

Cheers
Nobby
