Robert,
I have some basic specs for the Ruggerini RDM 901 of:

Quote:

90mm x 85mm
541 cm3
8.8kW or 11.8 HP at 2800RPM

It seems that Ruggerini is still in business and might have some info for you.

Or maybe someone else here is familiar with it.

Regards,
Andrew

Thanks, Andrew. I have the basic information and a parts list courtesy of Deutch (USA) and Ruggerini (Italy) parts department. I am looking for an operation manual and persons with some hands-on experience with these engines. I understand the U.S. Air Force used a non-marine version of the engine some years back. However, this was essentially hearsay.

Your interest is appreciated.

cylinder head of a Ruggerini RM 278 (2 Cyl.)

Hi,
I am looking for a cylinder head. Does anybody know where to get?

Might be interesting:
Ruggerini is not in business anymore. Lombardini (also an italian motor producer) has bought the rests of Ruggerini. allpa in the netherlands is the Ruggerini chief agency for europe. allpa deals only with commercial partner, but they will give contacts to service partner (I met them on the Hanseboot in Hamburg this yeas).

Regards

Hello,
I'm looking for any information about a ruggerini rm90. Experience will do as well.
Problem i have with this engin is that it will not heat up when running. It just stays below 38c

Well, I'll tell ya wht I know and that's an engine is an engine is an engine is an engine. Enjoy it! Take out any thermostats if any and run as many RPM's as you like, that is, as long as there aren't any temp gauges lyin to ya. Sounds like you might have it made. The time to worry is when the temp is too high. Make sure the guages aren't lyin and then let everybody know.

Take out any thermostatic valve? That way it will not even heat up to 38c. Running at full speed with a very cold engine? Doesnt sounds too healthy for the engine to me. I bet it will start using oil in no time if you do that frequently. I checked all the guages and they are working fine.

Anyway i might have found the problem, the bypass over the engine which goes directly to the exhaust manifold was almost completely blocked.
Perhaps because of that the pressure to the thermostatic valve was bigger so more water was forced to pass the thermostatic valve? (engine has direct cooling)

Ya what was I thining about? It's already not warming up, sounds dislexic. Don't trust those guages too much though. Curious however, how do you suppose that bypass got blocked? Direct cooling, no strainers? Was the exhaust manifold any warmer because of it?

Well, i found out that is was almost completely blocked because i unscrewed some sort of hollow bold (called "eye" in the manual) which devides the cooling currunt in two. One directly to the exhaust manifold, the other to the engine. The outlet of that bold to the bypass was chalked up.
I verified the temperature guage and it is working correctly. (Tested it in a glass of hot water with a thermometer.)Exhaust manifold colder now? Dont know, didnt checked it but i can see that more water is coming out of exhaust pipe. Only one strainer and thats placed before the waterpump.

I have an old 'Ruggerini' diesel boat engine, 2 cylinders, sea-water cooling system. No other engine's particulars are known.
I am interesting for an 'Operator's instructions manual' as well as for any possible information.
The motor is running well but it is in need of general onerhauling and any information shall be appreciated. Thanks

I have a Ruggerini RM270 water cooled Diesel Generator. When it starts I hear a pop, pop, sound and then it runs perfect. After about 15 min the engine starts to overheat. The coolant disapears out of the tank. I presume that the Head Gasget must have blown. Does anyone have any suggestions where I might obtain a new one? The water does not get into the oil system.

I am the UK importer / distributor for Ruggerini Marine. Most spares are still available although there are no new engines. With regards to engine temperature; Any engine that is salt water cooled must NOT run over 50-53 deg.C or the salt will drop out of the water and block waterways. If the engine runs cold, it's safer than if it runs hot. To ensure good ring seal, etc. keep the revs up whenever you can. Regular slow running without heavy load, is not good for any engine. It's the combustion temperatures you are looking to keep up, not water jacket temps. After all, no diesel engine could run if the combustion temps were as low as the water jacket temps, even at 85 - 90 deg. You can always ring me during the working day on 44 (0)1305821175.

Ron, i agree with you on the salt dropping but it is not normal that the watertemp not even reaches 40C (lowest readable value on the clock). The engin does not reach a proper combustiontemp. She alway produces a blue smoke.
Blue smokes means; running a cold diesel engine or burning oil as we all know. The fumes produced by the engin do not smell like burned oil at all and the oil level in the engin has not dropped a bit after several hours of running. So, engin running too cold. It might be safer to run at too cold temp instead of too hot but running at too cold temp will shorten the live of the engine by many many hours. If i run the engin at 3/4 for a couple of hours and then release power to stationary running she drops below stationary rpm. just the same as a cold start. After a few minutes with very little power she runs fine again. For those reasons the temp must go up to 50C. As the thermostatic valve is designed for 50C and opens/closes at 48C (fully opend at 52C)the temp must be around 50C. I also got in contact with another rm 90 owner and his engine is running around 50C so there is something wrong with mine.

SalvageMan, I just checked out that manual and it was a great help thanks.

I still have a question. I have a Ruggerini RDM 901 diesel engine on my sailboat. I have just had the oil pressure drop suddenly. After some reasearch, I believe that oil regulating valve spring may have broken. While I've taken apart surrounding parts and the oil filter and the filter base, I can't find the placement of the valve itself.

Can anybody tell me where the oil regulating valve is situated on the RDM 901?

When it was taken off the boat they cut things off of it and made a mess of things.I'm looking for a picture of this generator in it's cabinet by "MASE" so I can see what I'm missing and how it should go back together (things like switches, electrical connections, cooling etc.. I Also have a complete manual for the RDM 901. I can scan specific pages and email them to those who need them.

I just bought a Ruggerini 2 cylinder air cooled diesel, I know nothing more about it. It looks brand new, runs great, and was priced right, that's why I bought it. I guess it's about 18 hp or so. I expect it was new 15 to 20 years ago or so.

If you know or have any info on this please send me an email [email protected] Thanks Jon

It's 16 hp, I found it was also used by Deutz, mine was Wisconsin.

Here is a link to a pdf workshop manual, the md 151 is the same engine and the key numbers to search for.

Disassemble 220v generator from RM901

Does anybody have the experience about dismount the 220V generator from the engine RM901, I cant get the stator away from the axel and I tried everything except the right thing?:-) .

I dont have the service manual just the parts guide and what I can see there is no sprint to remove to get it loose.

Or do anyone have one for sale?

I have a mid to late 80's sea water cooled, 4 KW Mariner gen-set Model MG4D, with a Mase alternator coupled to a Ruggerini engine. The name plate on the engine reads "engine #R1.81". Does this number indicate to anyone the model of the engine?
Am looking for parts to rebuild the engine. Where can I find them? Any suggestions are welcome
Thanks

Ruggerini RDM 901 Marine diesel generator.
I wanted a new Rotor but have not found one , so decided to replace the generator with another new genset.
That means I have the whole RDM 901 to sell, which as a diesel engine runs fine. there was never anything wrong with the diesel side of the generator. I will sell as a whole or broken down for parts, piston, head, block etc, The bits need cleaning up but otherwise are sound. If interested email me and I will send photos of what there is. No idea of pricing, I just want to get rid as its taking up space.

Ihave purchased a
RD92/2 Ruggerini motor generator. I have no specifications for this machine. I do not know what fuel this motor uses as I have checked on the tank and it smells like paraffin. Can you help with the type of fuel this motor uses and the size of the battery.

Hi all - I have a Ruggerini MM150 in my sailboat. It's at least 25 years old, and (it seems) not easy to find parts. So I am looking for (1) a diesel of the same size that I can swap in OR another MM150 that's in decent condition.

I'm in The Netherlands (Amsterdam)
