Are you looking for an engine that looks like either one of these?

dave, they are the same engine, as you say in the ebay listing parts are non existant, so for that reason i think i will also sell my motor and fit a 20 -30 hp more common motor.
i have also got a manual for them on my computer, a nice man from france won it on ebay and coppied it and e mailed the copy.
all the best

Martin,

What will you ask for your engine? I know Chris (Nice French Guy) needs an injector, and I'm looking for a pulley to fit my tapered shaft.

It would be nice to get £500, a big chunk towards a larger motor, i will keep it if it wont reach near that figure.
my motor has a bell housing with some form of clutch in and a 2:1 gearbox on it
I will try and get a photo on here later.

Ive got a Ducati single cylinder 8 HP air cooled IS9 engine in my Gozzo here in Italy. They made a single and a twin at least. There is no reason to assume that the original log book is wrong (I have it). Made at Ducati Meccanica SpA in Bologna Italy 1976. It was easy to get the injector here for example as far as spares are concerned. Has anyone got a workshop manual?

Darrel
I think, like my single that it was also produced by Wisconsin Diesel in the USA as a WD2-860. Ducati are no use for spares but some parts are available here in Italy. I was recommended to buy a book as a worshop manual by Ernie in previous posting on this site

I have some information (in English) that I could scan. As to spares the main agent in the UK used to be Ruhaak of Brighton, sadly long gone. It would be very surprising if Ducati had made their own piston rings etc as most companies buy-in such items so such things should not be a problem. As to yachties, they all like to have 100% worldwide spares which is not really possible but IS11s are now so cheap that it is possible to have two and keep one as a spare! Incidentally, air cooled diesels don't suffer from frost cracks which is a problem that ruins a lot of engines.

Regarding starter motors (dynastarters actually!)these were usually made by Bosch. The IS11 uses a small one but the IS20 (single cylinder) uses a much larger one. Such items are now vintage and hard to find. The smaller dynastarters were also fitted to Volvo MD1s and MD1Bs and also to the Vire (that's a British made 2 cycle petrol engine made for sailing boats). At one stage Lucas and Siba both made belt-drive dynastarters but these are now quite rare.

I now have an original Workshop manual for all the IS models. Let me know if anyone needs a copy. It has everything - even the gearbox and Dynastart and part nos. It's in English, French and Italian

Dear sirs,
there is only one person in the U.S. able to supply every sort of info about the Ducati mono & double cylinder little marine diesel units and his name is Dale Chambliss in Houston Tx. He also had a huge inventory of spare parts for such engines. You can still try to contact him at [email protected]. Good luck.
Best regards.

I have a nice running Wisconsin WD1-430/ IS 11 . This was a spare from a Canadian Coast Guard lighthouse boat from about 1980, has perhaps 20 hours on it. I have the service manual also. Has the improved 6 bolt fan installed. No factory fuel tank or muffler. Anybody need this engine? Cheap to a good home.

Sarah. What you have is a Wisconsin Diesel Engine. It is the same as a Ducati Diesel but seems to have been assembled in the US in the 60's. You will probably find all the fixings are metric and the piston has the Italian word 'VOLANO'(flywheel) and a arrow on it. Fuel parts are Bosch and some parts are tha same as Lombardini engines. We run a user group to help with Manuals and parts:

can anyone tell me how to set the timing on a ducati is11,there are two timing marks on the flywheel, one 12 midnight, and one about 1030pm, what position should the flywheel be at from top dead centre before fitting the injector pump. also is there an easy way to locate the pin on the injector pump into the plate in the housing.

We have one of the big single cylinders in our canal boat, installed probably from new by the builder springer engineering. Unfortunately the gearbox has finally popped and I have no spare.

Can anybody here supply one either as a direct replacement or a source for parts?

Also does anyone have any info on these gearboxes at all? They are never shown in the manuals or mentioned much. I'd like to know how interchangable between different models they are.

I do know they are very different from the Hurth boxes fitted to the twin cyclinders.

Re defective gearbox

Whats wrong with the gearbox? is it jammed and cannot engange/disengage?

It would be a great help to me and yourself if you can take a few pics and mail them to me, as its uncertain which make/type of gearbox we are talking about.
Ducatis have been fitted with 4 different makes of gearboxes and not all parts can be supplied today.

What is the type and number?

kind regards:

Hi. This a most helpful forum...delighted to discover it. I have what I believe is an IS11, on a small boat in Waterford, Ireland.

I have recently had the Injector repaired, but we are not sure what the pressure range from the injector pump would be. I'm thinking it will be approximately 150 PSI, but me mechanic is thinking of setting it around 200 PSI, because when he tests the injector it sprays beautifully at that.
Thanks in advance

First of all I believe your units are wrong and I suspect you mean 200 kg/cm2 and not PSI. 200PSI is no where near injection pressures.

Manual spec is 210kg/cm2 for the IS engines so assuming your mechanic meant 200kg/cm2 then he is on the ball.

Go here and join they have manuals etc.

There are no gearbox spares available as far as I know. What is wrong with it? You can download the manual from our Ducati diesel engine site (files page). http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/ducatidiesel You'll need a yahoo account to login

There was a Ducati diesel engine in Lancaster UK that was on eBay uk in April 2017. No dynastarter or front cover however. Without the starting gear it is not much use. I would guess that it came from a boat on the Lancaster Canal as every so often British Waterways evict boats that have been abandoned and are in arrears with their mooring fees. It was too far and too heavy for me and getting a Dynastarter and control box is far from easy.

Regarding Ducati Service Manuals, There is a book "Small Diesel Engine service manual" published by Clymer. The book has a Wisconsin section and in the pictures there is a piston marked "VOLANO" and there is also an arrow. That is Italian for "flywheel" which the arrow points to! The UPC ISBN is 0-877288-448-1 and the EAN ISBN is -13: 978-0-87288-448-9 Of course the tricky part is matching Wisconsin to Ducati but the cubic capacity and bore and stroke will be a tremendous help. The book also covers Continental, Deutz, Farymann, Isuzu, Kirloskar, Kubota, Lister-Petter, Lombardini etc all the way up to Yanmar. Anyhow Wisconsin = Ducati in the case of several models so it is just a case of matching-up the models. Good luck!
