I’m having trouble with my fuel supply to my M-60. Last season my fuel filter would collect all sorts of sludge from the tank. It would overwhelm the filter and end up clogging the carb. No problems once I cleaned the carb though. I added a disposable inline paper fuel filter downstream of the primary filter that has helped but I’d like to clean the sludge out of my tank. It is an aluminium 20-gallon tank with a filler pipe from the cockpit sole. I should have pulled the tank out when I had the engine out for a rebuild last year but I can’t do it now. Any suggestions apart from the obvious dumping carb cleaner etc into the tank?

Being that this is a gereral marine problem, you might also start a thread on Marine engine discussion board. There are services at harbors that steilize diesel fuel tanks on your boat. You might want to find one of these outfits and see if there is a similiar service for gasoline tanks.

www.marineengine.com Discussion board, Topic: Miscellanious marine engine related topics. Might even start a thread under Mercruiser. I know it has little to do with Mercruiser but that is an active part of the board and a gas tank is a gas tank regardless of engine.
