Hello all, I am new to palmers. I picked one up yesterday in Miami and am working on figuring it out. This is my first old engine and first post here. I will try to figure out photos soon. Any info or is there a digital manual floating around?

I have good compression and am trying to sort out a way to get spark. How is the coil set up?

Thanks for the help!
Alex

Alex,
Go the the Palmer section and search YT 1 using the search button at the top. There is a ton of info available.
No digital manuals are available that I am aware of but a print version is available here
http://www.oldmarineengine.com/store/index.html
E-mail me the pics and I will post them for you.
Hope this helps
Ernie

If you have good compression it should be an easy engine to get running. These are good runners. One common mistake is cranking in the wrong direction.

I missed a YT-1 about 30 years ago because the owner tossed it in the recycling. His father told me it would backfire and run the wrong way. Actually it was running the way it was supposed to run. Counter clockwise!!!! Facing the flywheel The YT-1 and YT-2 are very easy starting engines. Nuff said!!!

Thanks for the encouragement, I have had it fire a few times but it won't turn over more than about 5 times. What type of advance are you guys running in your apart timing? Also I am wondering if I should take off the timer and clean and inspect it.
Here she is! Found in the depths of junk shop in Miami.

Bring the piston up on TDC of the firing stroke by rotating the flywheel counter clockwise. This should put the timer 1/4"/20 square head set screw facing aft. The handle of the timer should be vertical. Note the contactor inside the timer lines up with the set screw and flat flat on the timer drive shaft. Pull the handle of the timer toward the flywheel to retard spark. As soon as engine starts push timer handle aft to about 2PM. A few drops from a priming bottle in the
priming cup makes it easier to get going. Prop the throttle open slightly using the screw adjustment on the throttle linkage allows for a slow idle.

Thank you for the help, it's now running. I have to figure out some things and am designing a boat to put it in. I am now on a mission to find a reversing gear, preferably a YC but if there are any suggestions that are period correct I would appreciate it. I will be traveling the east coast in the next few months and might be in the market then.
Thanks
