I have a 1974 Columbia 30 sailboat with the Plamer 60. It, along with the entire boat boat, was rebuilt about 3 years ago. She is new to me this season. The engine currently shows about 210 hrs on it. I am getting grey/white (with a hint of blue maybe)smoke from the exhaust, especially at startup about or when I run the engine up to speed (2000 rpm) from idle. I haven't noticed any change in oil or coolant level. I thought it might be that it is due for a valve lash adjustment. Any thoughts?

I doubt valve lash would cause smoke, maybe worn valve guides. a 4 stroke most likely rings. I would also check your hour meter. If the engine sat for a long period of time you sometimes have rust develope in the cylinder that promote premature ring, cylinder and piston wear. tell us how it has been used

It has been used regularly for the last three or four years from March through November oil change every 100 hours or end of season. Starts quick, runs smooth. Burns about 7/10 gph @2000 rpm which gives me around 5kts depending on wind/current. Clean as a whistle, purrs like sewing machine. I just started noticing a little smoke at start up and then when I go from idle to 3/4 full.

I would just keep an eye on it. It could run for years like this.
