Palmer BH hard to find? Expensive?

I am gearing up to build a small Atkins inboard launch that calls for a Palmer Baby Husky 6hp. While I am mostly looking into modern substitues I am curious about how hard it would be to find a used Palmer BH and how much could I expect to pay? Where is the best place to look for them?

If it needs to be rebuilt, how hard is this to do? are parts available etc.?

Any recomendations on other old makes that would be similar to the Palmer?

In my opinion don't mess with the BH series or the PW-27 series.
Try to locate a good fresh water cooled YT-1. They are great little engines and simple to maintain and operate. The Bh series followed the YT-1 and the typical ignorant of marine engine facts assumed because the BH- put out about 6-8 Hsp. that it would push a displacement hull at a higher speed than the YT-1 with 2 hsp at 800 RPM. the facts of the matter are that the YT-1 with a 12" dia 3 blade prop would push a 16 foot hull all day long at hull speed and with a lot more push than the BH and PW-27 with their high rpm hence higher hsp. But the way they got the higher HORSEPOWER was using a smaller prop which in the final analysis is what pushes the hull. A good YT-1 will probably set you back about $1000-$1500 but with a simple keel cooler and dry exhaust you will have a very good mix of a small hull and a very reliable engine. You will need a reverse gear with the YT-1 if you want that luxury but a straight drive avoids a lot of additional complications. Where you will find a really good BH, BHW, BHT, or BH-25 which are all iterations of the the basic BH I have no idea. The BH-25 would be the better engine of the series as it would have a Paragon OXKB reverse gear and the OXKB is widely available from junk engines of not only Palmer but other makers. The PW-27 is a possible engine but again hard to find in really good condition. It would have a Paragon reverse gear unless it was a "bob-tail"

Thanks. So that brings up a good question, is the Palmer BH water or air cooled?

Since this is a smallish boat (15') I'm hoping to avoid adding a water pump and inflo. In fact all of the modern alternatives Im looking at are air cooled gas or diesel.

Also, if I were to actually buy a Palmer I would prefer the reverse gear so I guess the BH-25 is really what I'm asking about.

The YTl, BH and PW-27 are all water cooled engines
