Hi.
I just aquired a couple of 3h.p make and breaks one Atlantic and the other Acadia.Well I was cleaning the name plate off and could only see #49 no number before or after so it seems that she must probably be the oldest complete 3H.P. Acadia in existance. Anyone with any imput on this please contact me. And oh yes she is for sale

do the 3hp Acadia have the normal size flywheel or is it smaller. Saw a couple 3hp a number of years ago one had a much smaller flywheel. The other still had the tag on it. My understanding was that the small flywheel was used in earlier models.

Intererting, this makes the 3rd or 4th Acadia that I know of with the same SN. I wonder if they just stuck numbers on them for some period of time? Additionally I have seen number 45, 46 and 47. I also may have the tag only from number 40 or 41. There wasn't anything left worth saving except the brass.
As to flywheel size my 3hp has the same flywheel as a 4. My 3 is a late one, I suspect the 60's or newer. As it has a very large sn.
We really got a lot of Gray info out in the last week or so, howabout Acadia this time? Whats out there? I have a 3 and will get the sn posted in the next day or so. I also have a tag or 2 from engines that no longer are here. I will try to find them and post the numbers.

If anyone is really hot for Acadia stuff, there is an ad in the latest Gas Engine Magazine for six 10HP Acadia stationary engines and four Acadia winches. For sale as a lot, he is asking $11,000 OBO. [email protected] or phone/fax 403-309-5956. Eastern Canada.

Ernie... do you think anyone has an existing Acadia serial number list that we could use as a starting point?

Andrew,
Not to my knowledge. I think the only way to start would be SN by HP and cronologically. I don't know of any way to put years into the puzzle.

I wonder if the tags just stamped "49" was just the yearly starting point number and then it was up to someone (maybe the buyer) to stamp their
individual serial numbers after the "49" ??

I don't think so. The number is quite well centered, so as to prevent other numbers being added. But who am I to say sum umpteen tons of years later

Hi Again
I am dumbstruck also with the #49 and Ernie is correct as there is no place for anyone to put another number in front of or behind it as the numbering is just to perfect. To Tom,s statement the wheel is bout 13 inches in diamater plus bout 3.25 inch in depth. I am buying a regular 3h.p. Acadia tomorrow and will compare the both when I get that one in the shop with the others. One thing that puzzles me is a brass like cup with a top that screws off and u look in it there is a cork float of some kind. The carb is the other side so I have no idea what it is.
Thanks all
Joe

Joe,
The thing you are talking about is most likely a kerosene injector. Does it also have a needle valve?
Hope this helps

Just got back fr the other Acadia visit and again want that one so bad also, man this is addicting. What makes the #49 differant is that valve Ernie is talking bout, the carb, plus the exzaust on the newer model is from the side while the #49 goes through the back. Guys this is driving me nuts as I really want to know what i have here. So see u all later

Most of the old timers were made in batches or lots. The idea was to have a batch of raw casting sitting out in the weather to relieve the stresses before machining. A lot in the maching process and a lot in the finish/assembly area. I wonder if these are lot numbers. I have three Acadias but not sure where the serial numbers might be. Two are "double fours" one a single 4 hsp.
I have an Atlantic "double six" (12 hsp) with a serial number that the factory records said was 1967. Will have to go get the serial number and add it to this thread.

I recently aquired an Acadia 3hp marine engine. It's in rought shape and appears to have a few parts missing. I was wondering if someone out there could comment on a few pictures I could send them or could send a few pictures of a complete engine in order to help me figure out the what's missing on the one I have.

Thanks

Dave Sage

I have an Atlantic Four that I want to sell. I purchased it in Newfoundland about thirty years ago. It ran in a dory in a fresh water lake. I took the motor to Nova Scotia and had it rebuilt at the Lunenburg Foundry where I saw it running before I had it crated and shipped to Alberta. It is still unopened in the original crate. I think the head is cracked but I have not confirmed that is the case. About five years ago I purchased another head, piston with rings, coil and some other miscellaneous parts. Any assistance on how to sell this motor and parts and appropriate pricing would be very welcome. Don (780)906-1070

Don,

Sounds like a nice engine... but I don't think the Atlantics had a removable head... do you mean that you bought a replacement cylinder?

You could post it for sale in the classifieds.
