I got the following message from Larry Anger

Quote:

Hello to all collectors of rusty iron. I have just found valuable company records of the Acadia Gas Engine Company. There are lots of records but not all records. Some of the records are of no value, and others are very useful info. However some of the key info that I would like is missing. Since I am a Canadian and interested in Canadian built engines, I am always searching for history and info on engines. What I am trying to achieve is date engines by serial number.
My problem is that in the records I've found, I've got serial numbers, and sales invoice dates, but no connection between serial numbers and engine size, or type of engine. Acadia built both marine and stationary engines and the sales info does not specify the type or size of engine. The serial numbers do not run consecutively, so I need help from owners of Acadia engines to try and put pieces of the puzzle together. After I have gathered this info ! I ! will try and put together a registry that will be accessible to the public. This work will take quite some time because the records are 1500 miles from my house and only accessible from 9.00 - 5.00 Mon.
- Fri. The info I want has to be gleaned from big thick books, 6 inches thick.

I am appealing to all collectors to send me Acadia serial numbers, with the size and type of engine, whether stationary or marine. Also if possible, the bore and stroke. If you know of someone with an Acadia engine who is not on this list, please pass this request on. I will respond to all who offer info.

I have told him that this would be a very worthwhile project, and that a lot of marine engine collectors would be interested. If he would like to use this board and site in any way to assist in his reseach, he is welcome to.

You should respond directly to him and feel free to post here about it too.

Good luck Larry!

Regards,
Andrew

Suzanne,
The best way for us to assist is to start with a picture or 2. If you have any issue posting pics here feel free to e-mail them to me.
Hope this helps

Is there any update on Larry Anger's compilation of the Acadia sales records?

I work at the Historical Acadian Village of Nova Scotia and we have an Acadia 8HP marine engine number 60. I would like to know the date manufactured and how many 8 HP engines were built.

Thank you,

Sherman d'Entremont
