We have a 5 HP Acadia. On the left side of the block between the block and the Schebler carburetor is a valve looking thing with a bolt sticking out of the top. What does this valve do and what is the purpose of the bolt?
There is one on Ebay right now for a 3 HP:

These old two cycle engines were designed as a "two Port" or "Three port". The two port engines required a one way valve between the Crankcase and the fuel intake, it kept the compression in the crankcase from blowing out into the carburetor and on the vacuum cycle it would allow the fuel to be drawn into the crankcase. Many of the mfgrs designed and made their own style of two port vales and they were very unique mechanisms in many forms, there was also universal valves with pipe threads on both ends and common size were 3/4, 1 and 1 1/2 inch!

Here are some interesting two port valves.
