The following came in by email from Roy [email protected], I have asked him to post any additional feedback here. Thanks for any help you can provide him.

quote:

Hi There,
I'm in Marlborough New Zealand and have a couple of P66 engines, one is as it came out of a boat and runs well, the other is stripped and fully reconditioned ready to assemble. I am intending to build an older style clinker 16 ft boat this winter to suit the Stuart Turner and before lofting out, need to consider the prop size that would suit a 10hp P66.
Can anyone advise?
Thanks in anticipation,
Roy

Propellor sizes (dia & pitch) are
12" x 8 " for P55 and 12" x 7" for P66

Hi there,
I am overwelmed at the fast response to my request re P66 prop size. I feel I have the correct size now and appreciate the efforts.
I will continue on and keep in touch as the project progresses.
Thanks again. Roy.

Roy,

I am the proud owner of a 14'6" heavy clinker putt putt with a P66 installed. I operate the 12" by 8" propellor which was in the boat when I bought it. It is a perfect match for this engine.

I am not sure why a previous posting lists a smaller pitch prop (7") on the more powerful 10HP P66 and the larger pitch prop (8") on the less powerful 8HP P55.

Anyhow, I recommend the 12" X 8" for the P66.

Mike ...could be because the P55 develops 8hp at 1500RPM and the P66 is meant to run at a maximum RPM of 1650 to develop it's rated 10 HP,ie smaller prop at higher RPM.

The info I posted on prop size came from Michael Hodgson, a guy in Victoria, Aust whose been servicing Stuarts for the last approx 30 yrs.

Peter Ogborne's explanation on prop size differences between the P55 & P66 makes sense.

Hi all fellow New Zealand ST owners especially P66D owners.I am in Wellington. We have a ST 10HP P66D in our Townson 28 keeler. When Wellington weather permits.......the engine powers the boat (approx 3 tons)adequately. I agree with the prop advice given by Tim ...he advised us and the prop (which was made and freighted down from Auckland at very reasonable price) works very well. It is a fixed 3 blade 12x7 Lhand prop that we got from the wonderful guy called Jeff at The Prop Shop Wairau Valley Auckland. He did a great job as it fitted exactly when he freighted it down.
If any of you are in Wellington I'd be happy to show you the engine in action...weather permitting of course

I have a stuart turner P55ma engine mnfctred sept 1967
I am told it is 10 hp at 1650 rev, what size prop would be right.
as I need to replace the existing one , which was a reverse prop.
the cause of major hair pulling and frustration, any ideas on locating a potential prop?

Your shaft size is the most important thing , also whether you are after a three or two blade prop, i am pretty sure ours is 12inch by 8 or 9inch three bladed prop.
Also if she is rated at 10 hp and 1650rpm the engine is most likely a p66.
Regards Matt and Ron.
ps our P55 is still awaiting repairs, keep you all informed of the progress.
