Not strictly speaking a marine (ie propulsion) engine, but I hope of some interest.

Stuart Turner P5LY No.13611 was Supplied to Fairmile Marine on Jan 19 1944 as part of a set comprising two engines and a 1.5 KW dynamo on a combined base, it was one of a batch of 100 such sets, or engines - not sure which. Fairmile, designers and manufactures of Motor Launch, Torpedo Boat etc 'kits' for assembly in yards around the UK, must have been laying down quite a few craft in early '44 - can't think why ;-)

Note Best and Loyd oil pump so that engine could use fuel from main tanks rather than petroil, and flame trap on carb - probably quite an important consideration on a wooden vessel carrying several thousand gallons of aviation spirit! Though S-T generator sets were commonly started by motoring the dynamo, it is strange that there is no apparent means of hand starting the engine in an emergency.

Thanks to David Pickop at Fairways for the dating etc information.
