Sorry if this appears twice, but I can't see the original having been posted!
How do you reverse a P5 remotely? (Can you?) All the pictures I see of the P5 with a reversing gearbox seem to just have a handle on it. My P5 is stuck in the body of a locomotive and I need to turn this handle by 180 degrees remotely. Is this done on boating uses, or do you just do it from the top of the gearbox with this handle?

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Fix a sprocket onto the throttle control shaft (to which you would nornally fit the gear change handle) and fabricate and mounting another sprocket on another vertical shaft further back - outside the loco furnace door (I presume) and then use the gear change handle. The sprockets and related chain should be easy enough to obtain. You can remove the throttle control shaft from the throttle control column housing by firstly reomoving the circlip and then the round brass disc that it retains all of which are located on the rear lower side of the column then a spring will come out - then "Bob's your uncle" - just remove the throttle control shaft for milling or machining for the sprocket. Peter ...you could probably do the same as Tim suggests but use a linkage instead of chain .You are operating in 180 degrees just make your quadrant and linkage to suit.
I thought a P5 or 55 would make a good power source for a loco . I knew some one who used a P55 for a ride on lawn mower ...the reversing gear box was brilliant!
