Hello
I've just sold a much loved ST P55MA and realised that I'm still far too fond of Stuarts to be without one. Have therefore just yesterday gone and bought the 12 hp 4 stroke version from a guy in Linconsire (UK). Whilst I'm pretty clued up about its 2 stroke brothers, a 4 stroke ST is a new one on me. Any info / advice / known weaknesses / spares / fittings etc welcome.

I'm aiming to actually fit this to a boat (never managed it with previous Stuarts) so if anyone has a 18 - 26 foot workboat lying around doing nothing (especially if you're in Devon / Cornwall), give me a yell.

Look forward to hearing from the fonts of knowledge!

Cheers

The ST4 renovation project is nearly at an end. However, I'm struggling a bit with the water pump. For reasons lost on me this engine has an O ring to seal its cooling pump rather than the very effective gland packing arrangement on the 10, 8 and 5 hp engines . As the engine was previously used in sandy waters, the phosphor brozne plunger has worn significantly and the pump leaks past its O ring.

I guess I have 2 courses of action. The first is to replace the plunger and o ring (at God only knows what cost) and hope that the barrel isn't too worn so that the new plunger seals. The second is to change the pump for one off a 10 or 8 hp engine with the conventional gland packing arrangement. Before I am forced to take out a mortgage to follow option 1, does anyone in the UK have an old pump they'd consider selling me?
