After a one and a half cruise this morning we stopped for morning tea, about twenty minutes later we started the p55 up again and i noted the exhaust note was different there was no cooling water coming out but the water pump was working.
I stopped the engine removed the water pump valves and everything seemed in order, we then started the engine up and removed the hose where the water enters the engine from the pump, there was a steady flow from the pump.
On restarting the engine there was water exiting with the exhaust but at a reduced rate from normal.
We continued on our way home with no problems but with quite hot water exiting the engine, on getting the boat home i ran as i usually do fresh water and some corrosion inhibitor through the engine it still seemed to be going through the engine but again at a reduced rate.
I know i probably have a blockage somewhere, does anyone know of a easy way to flush this blockage out.?
Do i use some sort of flushing liquid like radiator flush. i would rather not take the head off.
Matt and Ron.

Matt make sure that you have not picked up some weed in the strainer. If yours uses an original ST, there is a mesh filter that could feasibly become blocked.

You could try to disconnect the pipe from the water pump then run water directly through the engine. Feasibly this could be a reverse flush from the outlet on top of the head.

Something to aviod is putting hose pressure throught the water pump because water can get past the seals and into the gear case.

Another check is to remove the brass fitting at the water outlet on top of the head and check for blockages there. I had mine off at the weekend and found corrosion almost closing the exit hole. There was also a perished rubber washer which also appears to act as a restricter here as well. I removed this restrictor and my engine now gushes water (probably too much). This is probably not your problem, but is a narrow area that could easily become blocked. I doubt you should be considering removing the head just yet.

David.

Hi! remove the can sized exhaust chamber where the water enters the engine! At the bottom you will find three smallish holes which can block with scale from the chamber. Reverse flushing with air will give temporary relief but its best to pull apart and fix properly.
My engine locked up with no water flow but started again when cooled. No damaged to bearings, they built these engines well!
