I have recently stripped my p5 and now want to rebuild it with new gaskets. Any ideas as to who might still be in business or how do I make up my own? This is in the UK so Antipodeam answers will be grtefully recieved but only because it means I'm not the only one on this planet (you can tell the starting problem has affected me).

Hi everyone I have just purchased a Stuart Turner R3M marine engine number 41071, its complete with gas tank prop shaft and skeg etc. Can I find out when it dates from and if it is possible to get gaskets and possibly piston rings, seals etc. Its got a good spark from its Lucas mag and plenty of compression but hasn't run for a number of years! Thanks in anticipation!

MartinR3M's with s/n 4000 -4231 were manufactured between May 1936 and Feb 1958.If your compression is good  why do you need rings?.Some gaskets are available but the paper ones are easy to make

Hello, has anyone else had to source crankshaft seals for a P5? I've tried Marlex Marine but they've no stock of these. I'm also still looking for a P5 cylinder head gasket. I'd be very grateful for any pointers.

Borrowed this from another site:-
"try John Cox at Cox & Turner (01425 652627). He will need bore size and groove depth and width"
but there lots of suppliers around. Also try Cord rings, they have been operational all of my life.

Hi Guys, I have a brass/bronze Handle in very good condition embossed with Ahead/Astern, this handle is from a Stuart Turner Marine engine R3M Gentlemans Launch, it has a spherical knob looks like made from bakerlite. I can email a picture of a complete engine showing the exact type of handle I have if required. I am looking for ÂŁ20 plus ÂŁ3.25 for first class postage. I am based on the Isle of Wight 07989758630

Hello ashley and welcome to the forum,i found myself in the same situation last year and found what i needed at MANOR TECHNOLOGY MONITORING LTD.the regulators they are producing are a fraction of the size of a standard regulator, they are electronic and very robust,Give them a ring or visit their website, talk to their director Micheal Hutchings and he will be more than happy to discuss your requirements. here are their details :-

The standard regulators cannot be used on the dynastart because of the reversed field wiring.

Best to replace with a 12v regulator from a VW beetle, and fit a standard starter solenoid.

Hi Ashley,

I can vouch for the Manor Tech regulators, specifically the DVR2-series regulator, as we use that with our Dynastart on our Stuart Turner.

Thanks,

Hello, I'm trying to find out more about my Stuart Turner engine. It's a single cylinder 9hp diesel and has the numbers 3221106 450/2117 stamped on the engine. There is a little plaque with SOL 9E 425 written on it. Does anyone know what age this would be? After it had sat outside the local church for 10 years it took some persuasion to get her running but with new oil and impeller in her she goes quite well. She does seem to tick over a bit fast though so I could do with a manual to set her up right if anyone knows where I could get one. I also need new seals for the gearbox prop shaft, valves and fuel filter. I take it Marlex would be a good place to start.
Cheers, Rich.

I'm garage clearing & have found a Stuart (stamped 35 P667), believe it's an electric drive motor; Plant No: 38619, 1500 rpm, 12-18 volts. It's mounted on a bed. It's very tired and would probably need a lot of attention. Thanks for anyone to give me information on whether it's useful to advertise (based in UK)!

Hi Steve,I'm at West Woodburn in Northumberland, NE48 2RX. As for price I'm looking for a reasonable and fair offer to settle the estate. There are also several other stationary engines but as yet we haven't located them as we don't have the addresses for his lock-ups until somebody asks for rent, also some Seagull outboards and small mercury and several motorcycles.
The plate on the engines (ST) indicates P55 and they are free to turn over. one of the shafts seems to have an adjustable pitch bronze screw.
I hope this info is useful.
Regards ,
Gordon

Nicholas
Your Stuart should run on any good modern Two Stroke oil in fact if you use a modern synthetic oil then you can afford to reduce the petroil ratio but it is expensive stuff. If you have a chat with the Chemist at Fuchs Silkolene just down the road from you at Belper he is a very helpful chap and will advise you.

Hi, I'm looking for a thermostat for an ST4ME, type P55, 12hp petrol engine. Water not circulating through the engine - just going in the top and exhausting as steam. Sediment cleared through inspection cover OK.

for those who want to know what oil to use in the 2-stroke Stuart Turners, look on my note on the page 'what oil to use'--it should be a straight 30 grade oil--Castrol, Morris and Silkolene are 3 good brands that I can reccomend

Dear Sir,
I would only hope I was in the south of England again. It is out of a Cornish Crabber after all.
However, it is situated in Milwaukee, Wi, USA running, like a top.
The only reason I would condemn it for further use is that she needs a head gasket.
Any ideas or help would be appreciated.
I am the rare, and proud owner of a trans-Atlantic Cornish Crabber Mark I. 1979.
Best Regards,
David Horvath

I now have head and base gaskets for the P55/66 as well as gaskets for the R3M, P5 and P6. My stock of Stuart engines is now over fifty so spares are not a problem.

Does anyone have a use for some Stuart Turner P5 bits?
All dismantled, mostly a 1961 P5 but some bits from a 1937 P5, cannibalised and rusty but shame to go for scrap.

I may well, Dan.. Our P5M is having issues so we might well need to start replacing parts.

Failing that though, I'm sure someone like David will take the parts off your hands :-)

Hi there, I have aquired a Stuart P5 marine engine and wish to restore it. It is missing the throttle lever and linkage, and the pawls, springs etc from the back of the flywheel. Are these parts still available?

Many thanks.
