My P55, when put into reverse doesn't have the same positive engagement as when put into forward. Can this be adjusted? and if so how do I do so? Any help much appreciated. Thanks for help on previous post re timing, got it sorted.

Ross it is a simple adjustment. What you need to do is adjust the eccentric in the control column. Slacken off the 4 nuts securing the column, then just ''nip ''them up . With a spanner turn the eccentric so that the pressure is equal needed to put the control handle from ahead to reverse . Tighten the nuts ,check the pressure and tighten the locking screw .
All this is based on your gearbox not being badly worn or damaged.

I have a similar problem. My forward and reverse were engaging fine but i neededcto replace the gasket between the gearbox and the column containing the control lever, this is not the tram handle version, but a rocking lever that is moved forecand aft to select forward and reverse. The new gasket is fractionally thicker than the original, its now very easy to select reverse and neneutral, but forward is really difficult.

Can anyone describe howvto adjust it?

Thanks
