If it is the same as the one pictured it is a P55M. Is it fitted with a Dynastart [ combined starter motor and dynamo]?

There is usually a name plate with engine no. on the engine and on the gearbox.

I'll send you a wiring diagram for the dynastart.

If you have any pictures we will try and help. sounds like the P6 single or P66 twin cylinder
there should be 2 oval brass plates 1 on the engine barrel 1 on the gearbox. this will identify the engine type and serial number.
we have the history for every engine that Stuart Turner ever built and most parts.

Doesn't matter - the wiring diagram I sent you will be OK

You previously mentioned a leak from a plate behind tha large wheel. I presume you mean the flywheel - if so, then it would be the Water Jacket Cover Plate - its oval in shape with Stuart usually cast into it. Undo the two sdcrews thru its centre and remove it together with the retaining plate inside. Clean it up and then refit using new sealant. While its off inspect the inside of the water jacket and remove any loose rust lying inside. Don't let the water jacket dry out for too long. Refit the same day. Good luck. Better to run fresh water thru the engine at the end of each run - the rust is much finer and will do less damage when its idle.

I suggest you do a search on this Discussion Board on "Stuart". You will also find a link on one of the messages about how to download a manual.

There are two guys in NZ with Stuarts who have posted messages on this Board. You will probably work it out from reading the postings - but if not, meail me.
