I am still collecting Lathrop 2 stroke engine serial numbers. My purpose is to be able to determine the manufacturing date of Lathrops by their serial no's.
Most helpfull would be any purchase invoices, warranty invoices or engine warranty tags,letters
etc that would give the date and engine serial numbers .

Dick you might suggest that for those Lathrops that have lost their nameplate the serial number is often found stamped on the top of the cylinder under the head gasket. It is also found on the rim of the crankcase bell housing. On a two cylinder the forward cylinder and the aft cylinder serial numbers are one up different. |

Appreciate the reminder,an interesting discovery
is that although Lathrops changed very little over the years making them difficult to date, the brass tags did change several times as to wording and design especially in the early years of production ! How about this early well worn old single, it has a tag but no serial numbers or a place to put them ?? It's one of mine I'll take the head off !!

Richard I had to get the paint off the upper Port outer rim not the face of the bell housing before I saw the serial number. It was just off the center line on the port side but full of paint that looked original. You might save pulling a head to locate a serial number. |

Couldn't find serial number on housing so Took head off today !
The only 4 digit TWO STROKE LATHROP serial numbers I have recorded are from Dick Days old twin 3708 & 3709, there is a 2 in front of them but I believe that denotes a twin ? and my notes say probably 1908- 1910 ?
So how old is this one ?? Still trying to figure that out ! |

Hey Guys
Wondering if someone could help me out? My Grandfather recently passed away and I found in his garage a Lathrop engine Serial number 11128. The engine is pretty bare, maybe if I searched enough I will find the remainder of the parts to rebuild it in the garage as well. I would like some information on where to get parts for this engine,i.e. bearings, piston rings, etc..
Any additional info would be greatly appreciated. I am new to the Make N Break engines - they were before my time in the marine industry. |

Is this engine a single cylinder ?
Possible to get a few photos especially a fairly clear photo of the Mfgrs Tag ?
I may be able to date it whithin a few years.

richard there a James Wirth who has a lathrop # 19299. that predates mine any guess to the year ? he has posted photo on an other thread "lathrop flywheel.
I'm picking up the shaft and couplers today so soon I hope to be putting her in the lake
