Regarding my Easthope 2 cylinder motor, model 8-14, serial number- HP 814, REV 10005, No 55(9?)66

I can't get forward or reverse on this motor.
Can anyone tell me what is missing from this reverse gear?
There must be some cross shaft or toggle that the forks engage to thrust the sleeve forward.

How is the reverse band retained to stop forward and aft motion?

I would really appreciate any input that would help me solve this puzzle!!!

your engine s/n is 55:5666 and the clutch s/n should be A5825X. As far as I can see you are missing one part which is a brass horseshoe shaped piece that slides into the slot on the slider just aft of the clutch. This horseshoe or U shaped brass piece has dowels sticking out both sides of the U, these fit into the slots on the actuator which is connected to the shift lever. The last picture is not an Easthope part but would do the same as the U shaped piece in some other makers clutch. The brake band is held in place by a bracket which is attached (usually bolted) to the clutch lid. The clevis which is attached to the brake band should be connected to the clutch actuator after you have fitted the clutch housing in place. The last thing to do is to install the clutch housing cover making sure the piece that holds the brake band in place fits properly. Now your shift should work. If your shift does not lock in forward or if the clutch slips there are simple adjustments. If you need to do this get back to me.....Joe

Thanks for your informative reply. We created a horseshoe shaped part out of a piece of 3/8 brass plate that does the job for now. Will now work at making a "proper" one for the long haul.
In this case the brake band retaining bracket turned out to be cast into the cover so that is fine. As for adjustments, not in the water yet for trials but should we need any adjustment info appreciate your info on this. Thanks again. Dan
