Philip, start with the mixture screw open 3/4 turn
and the air valve air adjusting screw wound out 4 turns(asuming that the correct spring has been fitted)>once you have the engine running you can
fine tune the mixture screw using very small movements.A 1/16th turn is a medium sized ajustment.

Sorry forgot to mention if you have just built the
motor or if it has not been used for awhile
there will be no residual fuel in the crank case
and it will take a little while for it to build up
You can partially choke the air horn to assist in
this. Also check for blockages in the main jet etc
Also make sure that the cork gasket between the
bowl and the bowl cover is in place and in good condition

Thanks Todd, Will let you know result. I noticed when I took the carby apart that there was no gasket betweeen the bowl and top. I thought that was a bit strange at the time however before I had stripped it the motor had been running without it . I suppose I have run the motor for about 8 hours since I have owned it and the previous owner hasd it for many years.
