I am a complete novice who is just starting on "the road". I have just acquired a beautiful old clinker (fibreglass over) with a twin Blaxland motor. The boat is in very good condition and I currently have it out the front on its back being lovingly rubbed down and tickled ready for anti-foul.
I have a very enthusiastic mechanic friend who fell in love with the Blaxland and now has it in his "locked room" preparing to pull it down to replace bearings etc.
I am having trouble with the back cylinder being "splattered with water" and my mate seems to think it is coming in through the front water pump, then running along the shaft to the front sump, then over to the back sump (due to the angle of motor and prop shaft etc). We have had the back cylinder off and can't find any evidence of a crack.
I have emailed some obviously knowledgeable people who contribute to this Forum (Peter, Barry and Mark) for info - but any other help at all would be very appreciated. I don't even know the horsepower or how to identify the motor (serial numbers, model number etc).
Hoping that this discussion board will bring me out of the wilderness.

Thanks for your reply jopeter, I know how it feels when you try to juggle new servers and email addresses. Good Luck.
If you do have any information for me I would be grateful to hear it.

I assume by spattered you mean that the crankshaft is throwing water . As the pump would only leak if the gland needs packing i would be looking at this area first . Other wise check the water connections from no 1 cylinder to no 2 .
Again you might have a very small hairline crack ,it is not unheard of .
My guess is it is the pump gland .

Thanks Peter, I will pass this info onto the mechanic working on the motor, as we are both novices your help will be invaluable.
We had no idea where the spattering was coming from, only that the motor wouldn't kick over, with only No1 cylinder trying to fire. When we checked the spark plug on cylinder 2 it had water drops all over it.
When we drained the back sump it contained a lot of water, the front sump had a bit of water which led us to believe that it was overflowing into the back sump. This is only a guess because I don't even know if the two sumps are actually joined or not - in fact I don't know anything at all about the motor.
The next few weeks will be a lot of fun????????

A Peter told me, there is a wealth of knowledge out there on twin cylinder Blaxlands, and the problem I have. Could you good people share some of this knowledge with me to ensure that the Muddy Rose gets under way as soon as possible?
All help will be gratefully accepted.
