G'day,
I have finished rebuilding a B-C TXRR and I can get it to fire. However after a few cycles it gives an almighty backfire and comes to a halt. I see no problem with the timing, the plugs and gaps (plugs and points). I am assuming I have a carby tuning problem and I have no publication to tell me how to preset the jet and the aspirator. I have read that the aspirator is set so that you see four threads of the adjusting screw.

Anything else that I am overlooking ?

TIA,
Allan

Hi Allan, The mixture needle needs to be about 1 - 1 1/4 turns out. The air bleed screw is right at 4 turns. Sounds like you may have the pistons in back to front. The High part of the crown goes to the Transfer port side. Th manual is not very clear on this Being in the wrong way around it does not allow transfer of fuel to the top of the piston and so will backfire and stop. Hope this helps... Cheers, Dave

Sucking air through worn main bearings? I had this problem until I renewed the white metal.

I hope you're wrong Stephen - I haven't got much else on though.

Looks like renewing the main oil gasket and adjusting the fine gaskets (there were three on top of the main one) has done the trick. A short (not so good) video for interested people.
