Reviving this topic again, Mark and others.
On my first engine traces of colour closest to base metal was dark green, as per the engine photos on the Vinco discussion previously, that is a good colour match. The old engine I am now working on had the light green present as an early layer. However, I have now found a definite patch of the dark green remaining under the light green on the cylinder of this engine. The light green was also applied over a brazing repair of a crack on the crankcase, so this is a later repaint. My theory, given all my engines have the three holes in the flywheel indicating prewar manufacture, it follows the light green is the post war colour and the dark green is prewar. How does this sound Mark?
Cheers
John

John,

I think that probably sounds reasonable. Ilooked at a definite pre war engine over the weekend with original paint.

The color is close to the light green. However the red is definitely lighter.

I think over the years the paint on this engine has faded quite a bit over the years.

So yes it could be that the early paint was darker.

Thanks Mark. The dark green remnants on this engine were very definitely under the light green repaint, and, as I also found dark green remnants on the base metal on my first engine, i will run with this colour. Also, as I found the burgundy red on the back of the water pump, I will go with this as well. The only colour I cannot verify is the flywheel rim, as I have not been able to find any traces, so the silver/grey from your sources is all I have to go on at the moment. Have you found any definite paint samples of this silver/grey on the engines you have looked at? Send me your address if you wish, and I will post you my colour swatches.
Cheers
John

John,

The Flywheel rim is the burgundy red.

The silver/grey is for the twin 8/10Hp. I know of one of these with orginal paint. The owner has e scraped some paint flecks that I need to pick up for this color.

I will get you the color brochures as soon as possible as this will probably give you a better idea as to what goes where and on which engine.

I've been holding off due to work commitments. Also I sighted some more brochures over the weekend which the owner will not part with so I will have to lug my copying gear to his place. Hopefully this weekend.

If I can get the new copies this coming weekend I hope to have this all done sometime next week. If not it will have to wait till the Easter weekend As well I have one further contact to talk to re the history so that can be written up at the same time.

regards

Mark S.

Good on you Mark.
Looks like we are getting a very good database going for these little engines. Good to get the info recorded while it is still around.
Cheers

Incidentally Mark, did you see the last message on the previous discussion, on the subject of oil brands on the nameplate, pre and post war? Any comments?
Cheers

Hi John,

I picked at my 2 1/2HP last night. It's an older restoration and needs painting the correct colors anyway.

The bottommost paint on the flywheel rim is definitely silver and not gray.

My engine which is one of the "newer" models from the "old address" Park Rd has Gargoyle on the plate.

I don't recall seeing any with Castrolite on them. I will however have a look at the plate on an engine from the Victoria Rd address

As far as the plates go does anybody have a plate which says Wentworth Park Rd instead of Park Rd?

Hi John,

I don't have your email address and your profile is private.

Could you send me an email for my postal address.

Thanks

Mark S.

BTW ignore one of my earlier posts where I stated the flywheel rim color as red. I was having one of those "brain fade" moments.

Well, I hope you all are right with the colour of the Vinco. I have painted my 4 Hp Vinco fly wheel green with a silver rim. It looks OK but now
is the arrow that points the derection the way the motor goes is painted white or does it stays silver?

Hi John, Chris,

I took a picture of the two single cylinder brochures as well as the color samples John sent.

I'm sorry about the quality. For the finals I'll scan at high res.

vinco

As you can see the colors are somewhat different.

I'm waiting for some color photos from 1948 that show a Vinco in a boat. Once this is all to hand I'll put everything together and get it out to you.

Chris I don't know about the arrow, I hope the your paint scheme is similar to the brochure.

Regards

Mark S.

Thanks, Mark.
Bear in mind that the brochure is post war and the dark green and burgundy colour patches are from what we believe are pre war engines.
The pale green is post war. It is a little difficult to compare the colours given the limitations in printing and electronic reproduction. Anyway, the patches are accurate reproductions of colour remnants on engines. I am looking forward to the 1948 colour photo.
At least the silver rim is clear!
Cheers.

Thanks Marks, for the photo colour scheme. I am supprised in how light the green is. I have painted mine the green colour like John's photo's
with the silver rim.
I have nearly finnished the painting except the cylinder. I now have to put in some white metal bearing in before I paint the cyclinder.
Would any one know of any Magnolia Metal bearing suppliers.
