We are seeking to identify this incomplete two cylinder, probably pre WWI engine, used in a launch.

My notes show only one mfgr to have these oval or eye shaped inspection covers ??
1907 Ad.
F.A.Seitz founded in 1902, bought Mohler & Degress Co. in 1905. Sold to Jencick Motor Corp in 1912. |

Thanks for a great lead on this. We would welcome any suggestions/sources for acquiring the parts needed to restore this engine, a steep task, I have no doubt.

I think this is the first time that I have seen a reference to the National Association of Engine and Boat Manufacturers

I have come across several articles and many engine ads refering to this Assoc. An interesting subject to research and an important part of the early history of our old Marine engines!
I don't have a way of readily referencing the sources, but will see what I can find. |

Dick, See April 10th 1924 issue of Motor Boat page 45 for details. If you have a copy of the July 25 1905 Motor Boat it tells of the formation of the national trade association. Among my Palmer documents there are a number of interesting notes regarding this Association. Ralph Palmer's son Everitt E. Palmer represented Palmer Bros. |

Going through some old pins at the 'old homestead' I found one for the National Association of Engine and Boat Manufacturers. The organization seems to date to 1904, according to the pin and a quick internet search. Around the inside of the pin it reads "National Motorboat, Ship & Engine Show." I did read somewhere that this organization sponsored the New York Boat Show at some time. There is a book called "Recreational Boating: the Nation's Family Sport." The author Joseph E. Choate is given as the Secretary of the N.A.E.B.M. From what I can see online, it looks like the story of the Assocation is told in this book. Perhaps someone can locate a copy? It would be interesting to find out from the number on the back, who this pin was issued to originally. I have no idea how it came to be 'in the family' as we have no background in that area.  |

While looking for opposed engs in above post This was on the very page I was reading !
