Hey Guys,

I am looking for some information about the engine I have in my Buehler Turbocraft.

There is a Crusader Marine Engine Model 170J and Serial Number TP1626 in it, but I am not sure if this is a Small Block Chevy.

Google turns up nothing, Crusader Marine, knows nothing.

Can anyone help, or point me in the right direction? I am looking for specs on this engine Is it a 350? How many horsepower etc?

Thanks for any help!

Well the one book lists a 170 and under it has 275cad. The distributor parts are listed the same as 283,327,348ci chevy's. Carb is the same too.

Thanks for the response Larry!

What do you mean by 275cad?

I was unable to figure that out. From a chevy manuel (engine identity letters follow the serial number,2 letters before 1970 and 3 1970 and after). On a v8 it would be on the right front side on a flat spot.

No the serial number of the engine is stamped on a small flat spot. The serial number you posted is the crusader number. I don't have a full listing of chevy numbers, but there probably is one on the web. You should be able to google chevy numbers and letters.

To find the size of the engine you need the serial number and the letters that follow. All the small block castings were the same, untill they were machined and pistons fitted then the stamped on serial number and letters were added. The only other way is take it apart and measure the parts.
