I'm a diver in southern California and came across the remains of an old wreck. The largest remaining piece of it since the wood hull has long since rotted away is this engine. Can anyone tell me what make/model, or horsepower of engine this might be? I apologize for the quality of the photos, visibility is poor at the site. While it's hard to see scale in pictures, I would estimate the engine is around 6-7' high.

Pretty much a game of Blind Man's Bluff with that much encrustation. Looks like some other materials are lying across the engine in places. Any other photos?

In looking at your picture of the engine and especially the Valve Covers..my guess would be the Packard or Steerling V-12 Gas Engine,..like used in the WW11 PT Boats. You can get a look at one if you watch the Engine room scene, in the Jack Kennedy Movie, PT 109.

Nice pics and a fun challenge!

Need some additional pics and some scale. Any possibility of getting a measure in there or your dive buddy to stand next to it?

Cheers,

Lew
