It's got to be an early ( pre-1907) engine for sure - the mounting arrangement below the centre line of the crankshaft gives that away, and it looks like it has a throttle in the bypass port, similar to a early Lozier.
Plus the curved flywheel spokes - not many marine engine had those.
It's probably rated at 2 - 3 HP, at 500 - 600 RPM
And , yes, I agree - if anyone can get it running, it would be either Ernie or JB. So take your pick - Ernie is probably closer to you.

I agree with Miro that this is a very old marine engine!
The spiral or curved spoke flywheel is definitely a pre turn of the century design ?
I have three mfgrs that had spiral wheels in their very early production

1. Buffalo

2.Lamb

3. Union

None of these appear to have mfgrd the engine in question here.

Does any one know of any other mfgrs that had a spiral flywheel ?

This one goes to the Uknown engine file !

Could the flywheel be a replacement? It is bored or counterweightd to counterbalance the crank & piston?
