My thinking is that this is not a Marine engine,only one persons opinion.
its old at least 100 yrs and very cool, others on here are more familiar with these engines ?

I also think it may not think not be a marine engine. It should be a smooth runner with all of the fancy balancing work done on the flywheel.

will try smokstak .have you got any ideas how oil gets to piston rings and main bearing on this engine?

It looks marine to me since the block seems to be set up for bolting onto wood stringers... In a small boat it wouldn't need a transmission... just start and go...

Output shaft seems to be small, no signs of a water pump. It's a nice engine.

After looking at this engine closely
there is a cast number or possibly a logo at the cylinder base flange ?
May help in future research
