Injection or valves?

The timing gears are all marked, there is an idler in there between the crankshaft and the other gears IIRC.

The injection pump is keyed to the drive shaft from the timing case (or compressor if yours has come out of a truck) so you should be OK there (there is a splined shaft on the DPA pump which has one spline missing, so it will only fit the socket in the engine the right way round.

The timing gears only match up once in every 180 turns of the crankshaft, or something in that order, so you need to get them set right.

Marks are punched dots, some had a small 'o' if my ageing memory serves me right. There will be two dots on one gear and one dot on the other matching gear.

The single dot has to fit between the other two It has been nearly 30 years since I worked on one at a Bedford dealer in Reigate, Surrey.

You do need to have the timing case cover off, which means the crankshaft pulley has to come off as well. Get a new seal for that and oil or grease it before refitting.

Anyone know the max recommended rpm of a Bedford 330 (98hp) please? circa 1975. I have one in a 30 ft boat and I'm frightened of over-revving it.
Tks

I'm looking at a cable driven tacho on my desk,
off a 330,right at this moment.
It red lines at 2500 rpm,but as the area from
2000 to 2500rpm is highlighted in white banding
I assume anything over 2000 rpm is stretching a
friendship.
Hope it helps ,Todd
