I recently picked up at a yard sale what I believed was a old farm milk can. It has two handles and removeable lid with a brass inlay marked AERO kerosene inspirator- The Mianus Motor Works Stamford Conn. I'm looking for any info on this item such as the mfg. or what it may be used for. This item located in Newfoundland.

Brian
The Mianus Motor Works founded in 1897 was a pioneer in the mfg of marine engines. A 1913 catalog says they have been making engs for 15 yrs.In this catalog and others, they also sold their own gas tanks in vee or round shape, from ten gallons and up claiming to rivet and weld them together to highest standards!
With the advent of engs also came the fire hazard
of the fuels and oils , most all local municipalities wrote fire code ordinances as to proper fuel cans and it became an industry in itself. My guess is that Mianus with fuel tank tooling may have also mfg'd safety cans? interesting collectible !!

Thanks Richard for that info. Never thought it was that old, any idea what it might be worth as
a collectible? Will post pic as soon as I can get
someone to do it for me.

Thanks
Brian
