I am searching for a water pump fit a two cycle engine with dimensions as photograph. Does anyone know of one going for spares or repair? Or where to look?
Any info or help gratefully received.
Regards, Dave Carter.

I am considering manufacturing a pump based on photographs of similar engines of around 1-1/2 hp, does anyone know the bore and stroke of a pump from a similar size engine, please?
Thanking you in advance.

Regards,
Dave Carter

Dave,
I would think there may be some parts engines floating around. There are lots of Detroit style engines. I wouldn't rush into making a new pump and parts.

I think I have the rough castings for the pump body and the two bolt gland. You should look for a used one befor trying to machine up all the pieces as Keith suggest.

Johnny,
The bore and stroke are the same as yours. The shaft is 1.25" for the flywheel, 1.125" for the drive end, and was 1.125" for the big end journal. I have spent quite a bit of time browsing through your website looking and comparing similarities.

Regards, Dave.

Dave, You will be real lucky if you find a water pump and arm for a Detroit marine engine. A lot of Detroit's out there with these two parts missing or worn out. However there were a few repo's floating around out here a while back. Do not know if any are left or not?

The water pump on my Detroit appears to be the same size as what you need. hole distance Measures about the same. Piston is 3/4" diameter with the stroke just under a 1/2" about .440 thousands.

Dave, does your exhaust manifold or expansion chamber have a pipe that goes down through the middle of it? If so be sure to check this pipe for cracks or rust holes. Should only have two or three very small pin holes in the pipe. Also make sure that the drain is not partially plugged up at the bottom of the chamber. You do not want to much water to accumulate in the manifold and get into the cylinder. Bad things can happen.

Johnny, Thank you for the measurements, I'll bear them in mind for later.
The exhaust chamber doesn't have the pipe down the centre, this one has a passageway in the casting from the coolant entry point, down the inside of the outer wall to the exit tapping at the bottom. Centrally, and just down from the upper corner of the box, is the remains of one of two brass screws which go through the coolant passageway, and which locate in a holes in the inner wall of the box in order to regulate flow of water into the chamber. The other screw is on the upper sloping edge of the casting. The exit holes are all clear.
Regards, Dave.
